Henrietta Knox, MA, LPC - Counseling & Psychotherapy
The counselor

My name is Henrietta Knox (1970), I am a licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Oregon. I am Dutch and I have lived in the Eugene area since 2009.

I welcome people from all walks of life who are looking for help. I am a Christian. My Christianity has shaped my view of life,  the world and people. You can trust that I absolutely respect your personal beliefs and life style, whether they are similar to mine, or completely different.

Approach to counseling and psychotherapy
My approach to counseling is based on the belief that people can become more in balance with themselves and in their relationships by understanding themselves, their needs and issues. As a result of this understanding one can make responsible choices about functioning in a more healthy and satisfying way both personally and in relationships with others and live productive lives.
Counseling and psychotherapy can contribute to this.

I pull from a variety of theories and models to fit your needs. It is my first goal to create a safe therapeutic relationship, in which you feel respected and supported. I utilize an integrative approach working within a framework of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)  and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, but also use psychodynamic elements. With trauma and PTSD, I use a method called EMDR. I would be happy to explain my way of working to you in person.

I have worked as a counselor since 2001 in different settings; 5+ years counselor/counseling director in an International church, 4 years in private practice in Amsterdam The Netherlands and 5+ years as an online counselor. Early 2011 I started a private practice in Eugene, OR.
Before becoming a counselor, I worked as a social worker, with troubled youth (4 years) and in child-psychiatry (5 years).

Formal training and education
I am licensed professional counselor (LPC) in Oregon, license number: C2778 . I am a licensed Psychologist in The Netherlands (Europe). I hold a Bachelors Degree in Social Work (1993) and a Bachelors and Masters degree in Applied Developmental Psychology (2000) from the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. I have completed a Post graduate training program of 2 years (2006-2008) to become a licensed psychologist in the Netherlands. I participate in continuing education every year, to meet the standards of my license and to improve my knowledge and skills as a counselor.
